Our Athletes Have been Back in Action!

As a club we try to ensure that we welcome athletes of all ages and abilities and we showcase this in the competitions that our athletes take part in.

British Masters Throws Pentathlon

On the 26th May, three of our athletes travelled to Oxford for the British Masters Throws pentathlon Championships. Brian Bowley in the M75 age group, threw the hammer 19.54, the shot 8,16, discus 22.90, javelin 22.39 and weight 8.34. This gave him 2253 points and he took the bronze medal, this was nearly 100 more points than last year. Taking V75 club records in the overall score and the weight. It was a welcome return to competing for Lesley Bowley after illness. She threw the hammer 15,14, the shot 4.65, discus 8.89, javelin 8.24 and weight 6.07. this gave her 1351 points and she was 5th in a strong W65 line up. The Javelin results was a new W65 club record as was the total score. Laura Allen was in the W35 event and threw the Hammer 21.70, shot 5.62 discus 15.95, javelin 11.76 and weight 6.57, taking 7th with 1129 points

Upper Youth Development League Stoke

On the 26th May our U17 and U20s returned to Stoke, which saw some extremely challenging conditions, including strong winds and heavy rain, but it certainly didn’t dampen their spirits with the team winning the match by 100 points and now lead the league! Read the full match write up on Facebook.

Judith Temperton Northern U15 and U17 Inter County Match 

On Bank Holiday Monday seven of our young athletes travelled to Blackpool to compete for Derbyshire after being selected at the Derbyshire County Championships. In the u15s, Poppy and Ava competed in the hammer, Ewan Withnall ran in the 800m running a fantastic pb of 1m57.63, taking him to 2nd in the England rankings and Ethan Pak Hei Yeung competed in the 100m. In the U17s Izzy Gould broke the 40m barrier in the hammer throw and after a clean sweep at the County Champs Grace Long and Lottie Woodward competed in the long jump.

Midland Veterans League

Our masters athletes travelled to Sutton Coldfield on Wednesday 5th June for the third match of the season. It was another close match. Overall Cannock and Staffs have a big lead in the league then its very tight. Burton are level on match points with Stoke but have more league points so are  currently second. a match point ahead of Birchfield and Telford. The last league match is at Shobnall on the 10th July.
