Athletes impress in Winter track and field!
Two Burton Athletes made their way to Oxford for the British Masters Winter outdoor throws.
The younger athletes threw on Saturday, that included Nicola Long who had just moved into the women’s 50 age group and was hunting for medals and club records.
In warm throwing conditions she took part in 5 events. In the shot she threw 6.92 for silver and gained another silver with a 29.27 hammer throw, taking both club records from Ann Holland. In the Weight, Long took bronze with 8.35 for her third club record of the weekend.
The Discus saw her 5th with 16.01 and bronze in the Javelin with 12.62 and Long will need 50 centimetres for the club record in these events
Sunday saw Jill Lamb open her season in the women 65 age group. Taking 4th in the Hammer with 17.75 and 4th in the Weight with 6.95 both better than she had thrown in last year’s event. Lamb then took bronze in the Discus with 12.00.
The week before in the British Outdoors winter throws Isla Rogers made her debut for the club at Loughborough. Throwing consistently well she threw 35.53 with her the final throw just outside her best and close to England schools entry standards, to go 8th in the rankings.
Indoors is drawing to a close but several made the trip to Manchester. Tristram Bolton ran a season best of 7.75 and a 7.79 Jasmine Upton ran a pb of 8.35 and a season best for Amber-Rose Powell of 8.42 which she ran twice. In the long jump a seasons best of 4.29 for Ava Hudson and the same distance for Jasmine Upton.
A few weeks back Oluwadamilola Owolabi ran a 6.80, 60 metres at Newham to improve his club record and go 43rd in the uk rankings.
