Inter County XC for Staffordshire Athletes

Several Burton athletes made their way to Himley Hall for the Dave Sunderland schools inter county cross country. With over 500 runners from 8 counties battling for places.

The younger age groups had earned their selection in a trial race at Rowley Park, while the oldest age group had been selected on past performances.

The year 7 minor boys race was over 2.7 kilometers and a first chance for this age group to experience a larger schools event. James Hollingworth has been running well in his school district.

He was having a close race with Clay Te Rangi-Day, who took 51st , 3 seconds ahead of Hollingsworth 52nd and the team 7th.

Jess Golder was running in the junior girls 3.2k race and she ran well for 58th with the team 3rd. 

In the intermediate boys 4 kilometre race, Burton had Aleksander Tutt and Will Kelsall selected. A strong run from Kelsall saw him 4th finisher for staffs and 40th overall. A bit further back and a year younger, Tutt took 59th.

 

This race had followed a East Staffs trial race at Oldfields School the previous thursday, with the event selecting the team for the Staffordshire Schools championship in February. 12 of the Burton AC, east staffs group qualified for the championships, which will also see more school year 11 to 13 added later. John Port were also taking part with Henry Hemmings winning the intermediate boys race.
