A small group of Burton Athletes travelled to Corby for the second round of the North Midlands League.

In the 3 killometers under 13 girls race, there was disappointment that Zola Signori after 9 consecutive league races over 3 years missed out with illness.. Amelie Cawson and Millie Shin both showed they are improving as cross country runners with Cawson 22nd and Shin 25th. The team are 6th with Cawson 19th in the league and Shin 21st.

The 3k under 15 girls race saw Amelia Nettleton get into a good rhythm, taking 10th as she lost a few places in the last 100 metres. Charlotte Nettleton finished like a train, coming home 11th. The team are 5th with Amelia 6th and Charlotte 8th in the rankings.

Burton’s under 15 boys started the day leading the team competition but with Withnall at the Cardiff cross challenge, it was going to be hard to maintain that lead. Lewis Boyce started strongly in the 5K race and was leading for most of the race until a hilly section where he slipped back but finished well for 6th. Lincoln Shaw started slowly but came through the field for 14th. Aleksander Tutt had been in front of Shaw but carrying an injury he struggled on the downhill sections determined to finish for the team, he came home 19th A strong finish from Olive James saw him take 24th. The team finished the day in 2nd place with Lewis 6th Shaw 8th Tutt 15th and James 18th in the rankings. With Withnall back for the last two races, Burton will be aiming to win the trophy.

Connie Lees had been disappointed with her relay run the previous week. In under 17 race she ran well for 11th and is 9th in the rankings.

Dedication from Antony Allen as he ran in the seniors race on his 50th Birthday. Taking 174th on the 10K course and is 103rd in the rankings.

With the next race at Shipley Park, Heanor on 7th December, Burton will hope to have more athletes available to run.

That will be last cross country race of the year and will be a good test for the athletes before the county championships on 4th January. The Derbyshire athletes will have their county championship at Shipley Park, so this will be a great chance for them to prepare.
